In an ordeal that gives new meaning to the phrase, "hard time",Charlie Manning, 61, has settled a lawsuit stemming from the loss of his penis from a misdiagnosed bacterial infection while incarcerated at the Stafford Creek prison near Aberdeen.
Manning's condition was misdiagnosed as a reaction to cold medicine and as a result, several pounds of flesh had to be removed from his pelvic region. Physicians managed to craft him a replacement penis from skin grafts from his thigh.
The incident happened in 2004 while Manning was doing time for threatening a neighbor. He says he settled with the Washington Department of Corrections because he wanted the ordeal to be over.
